Introduction
Welcome back to Learn Mandarin for Kids! In Chapter 1, we learned how to say Hello (你好, nǐ hǎo) and Thank you (谢谢, xiè xie). Now it’s time to take it one step further and learn how to introduce ourselves and ask others their names in Mandarin. 🎉
1. How to Say “My Name is…” in Mandarin
To tell someone your name, say:
🗣 我叫 [Name] (wǒ jiào [Name]) – My name is [Name]
我 (wǒ) = I / Me
叫 (jiào) = Called / Named
🧒 Example:
我叫小明 (wǒ jiào xiǎo míng) – My name is Xiaoming
📢 Practice:
Have your child practice saying their own name using 我叫 + their name.
2. How to Ask “What’s Your Name?” in Mandarin
To ask someone what their name is:
🗣 你叫什么名字?(nǐ jiào shén me míng zì?) – What’s your name?
你 (nǐ) = You
叫 (jiào) = Called
什么 (shén me) = What
名字 (míng zì) = Name
